Alec Crawford is a Project Manager with the Security and Climate Change teams out of IISD's Geneva office. Since joining IISD in 2004, his work has focused on examining the links among environmental change, natural resources, conflict and peacebuilding. His most recent work has involved field research on the links between climate change and the risk of violent conflict in the Middle East and Africa, as well as research and training on conflict-sensitive conservation in East and Central Africa. Before joining IISD, Alec worked in corporate finance for a Toronto-based technology firm.
Education
- Master of Environment and Development (2004): London School of Economics.
- Bachelor of Commerce (2002): Queen’s University.
- Alec’s post-graduate research focused on environmental institutions and discourses, and the economics of ecology and sustainable development which underpin them. Complementary studies in Development included analyzing development history and theory, with a focus on understanding the causes of poverty and the marginality within cities of the South.
